Privacy policy
Last updated July 2026. Zentroville is a hobby project run by three people, not a company with a legal department, but here's exactly what we collect and why.
Who this covers
This policy covers zentroville.com. We're an independent fan site based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and we handle personal information in line with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada's Anti-Spam Law (CASL), and, for visitors in Quebec, Law 25 (the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector).
What we collect
Through the contact form, we collect your name, your email address, and whatever you write in the message field. We do not have a phone number field anywhere on this site and we don't ask for one. Submitting the form also requires ticking a consent checkbox, which is never pre-checked: you have to actively select it.
Our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp) for basic security and troubleshooting, the same way almost any website does. We don't run analytics software, tracking pixels, or behavioural profiling on top of that.
Browser push notifications
Zentroville uses OneSignal, Inc., a third-party service based in the United States, to deliver optional browser push notifications (for example, when we refresh the game list). If you allow notifications when your browser prompts you, OneSignal's script loads from its own content delivery network, registers a service worker in your browser, and stores identifiers in your browser's local storage / IndexedDB to know which browser to notify.
The legal basis for this is your consent under PIPEDA and, where applicable, Article 6(1)(a)-equivalent consent under Quebec's Law 25. The permission prompt itself is shown and controlled by your browser, not by us, and declining it does not break or limit any part of the site. You can withdraw consent at any time by changing your browser's notification permission for this site, or by using the unsubscribe option inside any notification we send.
Because OneSignal is a US-based processor, this involves a transfer of the limited data it holds (a device identifier and subscription status, not your name or email unless you separately provide it) outside Canada. OneSignal processes this data under its own privacy policy and relies on standard contractual safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework extension, to protect data that crosses borders. We act as the data controller for the fact that notifications are enabled on this site; OneSignal acts as our processor for delivering them.
We store how long a subscription record persists for as long as your browser keeps the notification permission enabled, or until you withdraw consent, whichever comes first.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or trade any personal information to third parties.
- We don't run advertising networks, ad trackers, or retargeting pixels on this site.
- We don't build advertising profiles or share contact-form data with marketing partners.
- We don't collect phone numbers anywhere on zentroville.com.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA and, for Quebec residents, Law 25, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information (cai.gouv.qc.ca).
Changes to this policy
If how we handle data changes, for example if we add a new tool, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date at the top.
